A bakery's board report, trapped in a PDF. Paste it into Word and every sentence falls apart. Scroll down and watch it get put back together.

The scraps floating around are draggable. Glue the halves back together: 0 of 5

The brief

“Copy-pasting this PDF wrecks every sentence. Can I get a proper Word file by tomorrow?”

A made-up request from a made-up bakery, Mrs. Crumb's Emergency Pastries. The problem is real, though: it lands in freelance inboxes every day.

Four passes, one clean file.

This is what Word receives

Select all, copy, paste. Every line break from the PDF comes along, words are cut in half, and the page header lands in the middle of your text.

1

Strip the page furniture

The running header and the page number are not part of the report. They go first.

2 lines removed
2

Find the chopped words

The layout split words across line ends: excep‑tion, attrib‑uted, deliv‑ery. Each one is marked before anything moves.

7 split words in the full report
3

Glue and reflow

Split words join up, hard line breaks disappear, and the lines become real paragraphs and list items again.

60 broken lines became 20 blocks
4

Set it as a Word document

Real headings, real bullet lists and a proper body font. Then I check it against the original, line by line.

Editable, searchable, ready to send

Look through the mess.

Move across the page. Under the lens is the finished Word file, set from the same text. Hold the mouse button to make the lens bigger.

The bright page under the lens is the Word file. The dim page around it is the original PDF.

The original. Two columns, a running header, seven chopped words.

The fix. Opens in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, and every line can be edited.

Send me your worst PDF.

I will tell you how long it takes and what it costs, and for bigger files you get a sample page before I do the rest.
